ROCKHOUNDING AND ADVENTURE TRIPS
Florida March 2008
Since I decided not to go to the Tucson show this year, I used my free airline ticket to visit Paul and Susan Bennett, and their daughter Kerry, in Florida. Although I have enjoyed cross country skiing all winter, it sure was nice to see green grass, palm trees, and flowers. I would like to thank the Bennett’s for their generous hospitality, as well as the enjoyable itinerary for the long weekend.
The favorite place we visited was the Ringling Museum in Sarasota. I didn’t know that John Ringling had compiled such a massive art collection. The building he built to house the more than 40 galleries and multi-million dollars worth of art took half a day to go through. The art collection rivals any in the world. The highlight, though, had to be the house that he and his wife built in 1926. I have never seen anything like it. Pictured below are Paul, Susan, and I standing in front of the back of the house. The second photo is of the entire back of the house. The attention to detail with the tile work, multi-colored glass windows, and statuary is amazing.
We also spent a couple of days visiting various nature preserves, state parks, and the Selby Gardens. I very much enjoy taking pictures of nature. A few of the photos are below. The baby alligator was only around 8” long. The flower photos were taken at Selby Gardens. I included these for those northerners who are getting tired of this long winter.
